Singer-songwriter John Denver touched millions of people. He also achieved the status of a superstar with his folk-based pop songs most of which were based in Colorado. Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. grew up in Roswell New Mexico. He fell in love Colorado. He later moved to Aspen. Denver's songs that he sang about his adopted home state inspired many visitors to Colorado. G. Brown, curator of Colorado Music Hall of Fame declared it was because John Denver is the only musician to truly embody Colorado. In 2011, Denver was named the first Hall of Fame inductee. Today, he is Colorado's international image. When you encounter people from other countries, like New Zealanders, and they tell them "I am Colorado" and they say "I am from Colorado" then they instantly reply by saying Oh John Denver. Brown said. Take Me Home Country Roads is Denver's only Top 10 Hit as a Solo Artist after working in small Folk Music Groups. The song was written in collaboration with Bill Danoff. Danoff had written the song with the inspiration of Johnny Cash, but Denver was able to hear an early version of the song and realized it was going to be a top 10 hit. The track was released just two weeks following it was performed in Washington D.C. performance.
